MCDC's work with Huls Dairy in Corvallis, Montana was recently highlighted in a report to Congress as an exemplary use of federal funding for small businesses. The U.S. Treasury’s CDFI director Donna Gambrell noted that “MCDC led the project with its own financing as well as funds from two economic development groups, two banks, and four federal grant programs.”
MCDC recently provided a business loan to a Bozeman manufacturer and distributor of outdoor gear that helped move the company’s operations from California to Bozeman. The loan created employee ownership opportunities and brought new jobs to Bozeman. Pacific Outdoor Equipment is a maker of durable camping, cycling, and paddling gear.
The Historic Sears Building in Butte is about to reclaim its former glory as a hub of activity in the heart of Uptown Butte. The building’s developers and local community partners, including MCDC, aim to revitalize the historic neighborhood by bringing back a mix of urban housing and retail space to this early 1900’s five-story brick building. The project came together with MCDC's New Market Tax Credit financing.
MCDC’s second New Markets Tax Project will bring a much needed grocery store to Bozeman’s Southside. Town & Country Foods Inc. is opening its second grocery store in a renovated movie theater using innovative and energy efficient building practices. The new store will offer low-cost organic and local foods. It will also create 60 full-time jobs with excellent benefits.
MCDC uses its New Markets Tax Credit Award to help revitilize downtown Missoula with a beautiful new LEED certified building for the downtown, providing employment opportunities and below-market rents for Missoula businesses.
The U.S. Treasury Department announced on June 29, 2009, a $2 million grant to the Montana Community Development Corporation (MCDC), of Missoula, for statewide business loans. Amidst stiff national competition, MCDC received the top dollar amount awarded for its loan fund.
